Ayaam Privacy Policy

Effective date: 3 October 2026

Ayaam ("the app", "we", "us") is a period and cycle tracker for Muslim women that follows Islamic rulings (fiqh). It is published by Andrei Belausau, based in United Arab Emirates. This policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and the choices you have.

In short: your cycle and health information stays on your iPhone. We have no accounts, no servers that store your data, no ads, no tracking, and we never sell data. The only data that leaves your phone is technical and usage information sent to Google Firebase so we can keep the app stable and understand which features are used. It never includes your period dates, cycle length, symptoms, mood, name, birth date, school of jurisprudence (madhhab) or your device location.

1. Information that stays on your device

Everything you enter into Ayaam is saved only in the app's private storage on your iPhone. This includes:

  • period days, cycle length and period length, and predicted dates
  • flow, symptoms, discharge and mood logs
  • your missed-fast (qada) balance and ghusl status
  • your chosen madhhab
  • your name and date of birth, if you choose to add them
  • app settings such as language, reminders, discreet notifications, App Lock and the discreet icon

We cannot see this information. We do not upload it to any server, to iCloud, or to any third party. All predictions, fiqh calculations, Hijri dates and prayer times are worked out on your device.

Export report. If you tap Me → Export report, Ayaam creates a text summary (your logged period dates, cycle and period averages, cycle regularity, and your madhhab) and opens the iOS share sheet. Where it goes is your choice; we never receive it.

Location (optional). On the Ramadan tab, Ayaam can ask for your location to estimate suhoor (Fajr) and iftar (Maghrib) times. It uses only your approximate location, does the calculation on your iPhone, and never saves your location or sends it to us, Google or anyone else. If you don't allow it, Ayaam shows times estimated for Dubai. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Ayaam.

Device backups. If you back up your iPhone with iCloud Backup or to a computer (Finder or iTunes), Apple includes app data, including Ayaam's, in that backup, as it does for most apps. That backup belongs to you and is protected by your Apple Account. We cannot access it. Ayaam does not use iCloud Drive, CloudKit or iCloud sync.

2. Information sent to Google Firebase

Ayaam uses four Google Firebase services. Google acts as our service provider (data processor). The data below is not connected to your name, email, phone number or any account, because Ayaam has no accounts.

Service What it receives Why
Firebase CrashlyticsCrash reports: the technical stack trace and app state when the app crashes, device model, iOS version, app version, and a random installation identifier. To find and fix crashes.
Firebase Performance MonitoringApp start-up time, network request timing, CPU and memory use, device and OS information, IP address (used by Google for approximate country or region), and a random installation identifier. To keep the app fast and reliable.
Firebase Remote ConfigCountry code, language, time zone, iOS version, app version and a random installation identifier, each time the app opens. To check whether your app version is still supported and, if not, show an "Update required" screen.
Google Analytics for FirebaseUsage events such as "a settings screen was opened", "the symptom sheet was saved", "reminders were turned on", plus screen views and sessions. Each event records only that an action happened. A few events carry simple non-health details such as a yes/no value, a step number, the app language (English or Arabic) or how many days before or after today a day you tapped is. Google also derives an approximate location (country or region) from a masked IP address and assigns a random app instance ID.To understand which features are used so we can improve the app.

What is never sent: period dates, cycle length, flow, symptoms, mood, discharge, qada balance, ghusl status, your madhhab, your name, your date of birth, your device location, or any notes. No event is sent because a period started or ended. For example, when you save a symptom log, the analytics event records only whether the symptom and mood fields were filled in (yes or no), never what you chose.

We do not use the Apple advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission, advertising features in Firebase are turned off, and Google Signals is not enabled.

Google's own handling of this data is described at https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy and https://policies.google.com/privacy. Google processes this data under the Firebase Data Processing and Security Terms.

3. Health data

Ayaam does not collect health data on any server. Your menstrual, symptom and mood information is processed only on your device and is never shared with us, Google or anyone else. We do not use it for advertising, marketing or data mining, and we do not write it to Apple Health (HealthKit) or iCloud.

For laws that regulate "consumer health data", such as Washington's My Health My Data Act, Nevada SB 370 and similar US state laws, we do not collect, share or sell consumer health data.

4. Face ID and passcode (App Lock)

If you turn on App Lock, Ayaam asks iOS to confirm it's you with Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode. Apple handles this entirely. Your face data and passcode never leave Apple's Secure Enclave, and the app receives only a "success" or "failed" result. We never receive, store or send biometric data.

5. Notifications

Reminders (for example before your next expected period, or for ghusl) are local notifications scheduled by the app on your iPhone. They are not sent from a server, and we don't use push notification services. Discreet notifications is on by default, so their text is neutral (for example "A gentle reminder from Ayaam") and nothing personal shows on your lock screen. If you turn Discreet notifications off in Me → Privacy & lock, reminders use clear wording such as "Your cycle may start tomorrow", which anyone who sees your lock screen can read. You can turn reminders off in Me → Privacy & lock or in iOS Settings → Notifications.

6. What we do not do

  • No advertising and no ad SDKs.
  • No tracking across other companies' apps or websites.
  • No selling or renting of personal data, and no sharing with data brokers.
  • No accounts, sign-in, or contact details required.
  • No camera, microphone, contacts, photos or HealthKit access, and no location tracking: location is used only on your device, as described in section 1.

7. Legal basis (EEA, UK and similar laws)

We process the limited Firebase data described in section 2 on the basis of our legitimate interests in keeping the app working, secure and improving (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). Your on-device data isn't processed by us at all. We do not process special-category data (health or religion) off your device.

8. How long data is kept

  • On your device: until you delete it in the app or delete the app.
  • Crashlytics: crash data is kept for 90 days, after which Google starts deleting it.
  • Performance Monitoring: IP-associated events for 30 days, and installation-associated data for 60 days.
  • Google Analytics: event data is kept for up to 14 months, then deleted automatically.
  • Remote Config / Firebase Installations: the random installation identifier is kept until it is deleted. Google then removes it from its systems within 180 days.

9. Your choices and rights

Delete your data in the app. Go to Me → Privacy & lock → Delete all data and confirm. This erases your cycle history, logs, profile, madhhab, qada balance and ghusl status from the device and cancels scheduled reminders. App preferences (language, App Lock, discreet icon, reminders and discreet-notifications settings) are kept so the app keeps working the way you set it up.

Delete everything. Deleting the Ayaam app from your iPhone removes all of its data from the device. Copies may remain in iPhone backups you made earlier until those backups are deleted or replaced.

Stop data going to Firebase. Ayaam doesn't yet have an in-app switch for analytics. Deleting the app stops all collection. When you reinstall, you get a new random identifier that isn't connected to your old one.

Your legal rights. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • access, correct or delete personal data
  • receive a copy (portability)
  • object to or restrict processing
  • withdraw consent
  • not be discriminated against for exercising your rights
  • lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

These rights exist under, for example:

  • the EU/UK GDPR
  • the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA) and other US state laws
  • Saudi Arabia's Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL)
  • the UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on Personal Data Protection
  • Qatar, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait data protection laws

Because we hold no account and don't know who you are, the Firebase data usually can't be matched to you. To exercise a right, email us at andrushen.work@gmail.com and we will help, including by asking Google to delete data tied to your app's installation identifier where we can identify it. We will respond within the time the applicable law requires (for example, one month under GDPR, or 45 days under CCPA).

In Saudi Arabia you may complain to the Saudi Data & AI Authority (SDAIA). In the UAE you may complain to the UAE Data Office. In the EEA or UK you may complain to your local supervisory authority.

California notice. In the past 12 months we have collected these categories: identifiers (random app/installation IDs), internet or other electronic network activity (in-app usage events), and approximate geolocation (from IP). They were collected from your device for the purposes in section 2 and disclosed only to Google as our service provider. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as the CCPA defines those terms, and we do not use sensitive personal information.

10. International data transfers

Google may process Firebase data in the United States and other countries where it or its sub-processors operate. These countries may have different data protection laws from yours. Google protects these transfers with safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and its certification under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (including the UK and Swiss extensions). If you're in Saudi Arabia, the UAE or another Gulf country, only the limited technical and usage data in section 2 is transferred, and none of it is health or religious data.

11. Children

Ayaam is meant for women and girls who have reached puberty. It is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent where you live, such as 16 in some EU countries). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app doesn't ask for contact details, and the data a younger user enters stays on her device. Parents or guardians who have concerns can contact us at andrushen.work@gmail.com.

12. Security

Your on-device data is protected by iOS app sandboxing and by your iPhone's passcode and encryption. You can add App Lock for extra protection. Data sent to Firebase is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). No method is 100% secure, but we keep the data that leaves your phone to a minimum.

13. Not medical advice

Ayaam's predictions (next period, fertile window, ovulation) are estimates based on what you enter. They are not medical advice and must not be used as contraception or to plan or avoid pregnancy. Ayaam's fiqh guidance is general information following the rulings of the madhhab you select. For personal religious rulings, consult a qualified scholar. For health concerns, consult a doctor.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change how the app handles data, we will update this policy and change the effective date above. If the change is significant, for example if any new kind of data would leave your device, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect and ask for your consent where the law requires it.

Google Firebase

  • Google Analytics:
