Ayaam Support

Ayaam is a private period and cycle tracker for Muslim women. It shows your cycle and predicted dates, and follows the fiqh rulings of your madhhab (Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki or Hanbali). It tells you when prayer and fasting are paused, keeps count of the Ramadan fasts you need to make up (qada), and guides you through ghusl. It works in English and Arabic, and your data stays on your iPhone.

Need help? Email andrushen.work@gmail.com. We usually reply within a few working days.

Where is my data stored?

Only on your iPhone, in Ayaam's private app storage. You don't need an account, and we have no server that stores your cycle, symptoms, mood, name or madhhab. We can't see your data. A small amount of technical and usage information (crash reports, performance data and anonymous feature-usage events) goes to Google Firebase to help us fix bugs. It never includes your period dates, cycle length, symptoms, mood, name, birth date, madhhab or your device location. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Will my data move to a new iPhone?

Ayaam doesn't sync, so your data only moves together with your phone's backup.

  • Data transfers if you set up the new iPhone from an iCloud Backup or a computer backup (Finder/iTunes) of your old phone, or with Quick Start (direct transfer between iPhones). Ayaam's data is part of that backup or transfer.
  • Data doesn't transfer if you set up the new iPhone as new and then download Ayaam from the App Store. Ayaam will start empty.
  • Deleting and reinstalling Ayaam on the same iPhone also starts it empty.

Before you switch phones, make sure your old iPhone has a recent backup (Settings → your name at the top → iCloud → iCloud Backup).

Does Ayaam use iCloud?

No. Ayaam doesn't use iCloud Drive or iCloud sync. Your data is only included in iCloud as part of your iPhone's own full device backup, if you have iCloud Backup turned on. That backup is linked to your Apple Account, and we have no access to it.

How do I lock the app with Face ID?

Go to Me → Privacy & lock and turn on Require Face ID or passcode (under App Lock). Ayaam will then ask for Face ID, Touch ID or your iPhone passcode each time you open it or come back to it. Apple handles the face scan, and Ayaam only learns whether it succeeded. If Face ID fails, you can use your iPhone passcode.

What is the discreet icon?

Turn it on in Me → Privacy & lock → Discreet app icon to replace Ayaam's icon on your Home Screen with a neutral one. iOS will show a short message confirming the change. Reminder text is discreet by default too; see the next question.

Can reminders say what they're about?

By default Discreet notifications is on, so reminders say only "A gentle reminder from Ayaam" and nothing personal appears on your lock screen. If you prefer clear wording (for example "Your cycle may start tomorrow"), turn off Me → Privacy & lock → Discreet notifications. Anyone who can see your lock screen will then be able to read it. The option works while reminders are on.

How do I turn reminders on or off?

Go to Me → Privacy & lock → Reminders. Reminders are created on your iPhone itself and don't come from a server. If they don't appear, check iOS Settings → Notifications → Ayaam.

How do I delete my data?

  • Delete all data in the app: go to Me → Privacy & lock → Delete all data and confirm. This erases your cycle history, logs, profile, madhhab and qada balance, and cancels reminders. It can't be undone. Your app settings (language, App Lock, discreet icon, reminders, discreet notifications) are kept.
  • Remove everything: delete the Ayaam app from your iPhone. Older iPhone backups may still contain earlier data until those backups are replaced or deleted.

Can I export my data?

Yes. Go to Me → Export report. Ayaam creates a text summary of your logged period dates, cycle and period averages, cycle regularity and madhhab, and opens the iOS share sheet so you can save or send it. Where it goes is your choice; we never receive it.

Why does Ayaam ask for my location?

Only to estimate suhoor (Fajr) and iftar (Maghrib) times on the Ramadan tab. Ayaam uses your approximate location, does the calculation on your iPhone, and never saves or sends your location. If you don't allow it, times are estimated for Dubai. Times follow the Umm al-Qura convention and are estimates, so please confirm them with your local mosque. To change the permission, go to iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Ayaam.

How accurate are the fiqh rulings?

Ayaam applies the commonly taught rulings of the madhhab you select. Examples are the minimum and maximum length of hayd (menstruation), the minimum clean gap between two periods, which prayers are not made up, which fasts are made up, and when ghusl is required. These rules are general guidance. Scholars can differ, and personal situations can be complex, for example irregular bleeding, postpartum bleeding (nifas) or spotting. For a ruling on your specific situation, please ask a qualified scholar you trust. If you think a rule is wrong for your madhhab, email us with the details and your source. We review every report.

Can I change my madhhab?

Yes. Go to Me → Madhhab and choose another school. Ayaam recalculates your status straight away.

Can I use the predictions to avoid or plan a pregnancy?

No. Predicted periods, fertile days and ovulation dates are estimates based on what you've logged. They are not medical advice and must not be used as contraception or to plan or avoid pregnancy. If your cycle is irregular, very painful or worries you in any way, please see a doctor.

Is Ayaam free? Are there ads?

Ayaam is free, with no in-app purchases, no ads and no tracking.

Which languages are supported?

English and Arabic. Change the language in Me → Language.

The app is asking me to update. Why?

Sometimes an older version must be updated to keep working correctly. Tap Update Now to open the App Store. Your data stays on your phone and isn't affected by updating.
